Minced beef bell delight are a classic dish from Mediterranean cuisine. In this recipe, we fill the green bell peppers very flavorfully with minced beef, making them truly minced beef bell delights. We serve them here with Orzo, the well-known Greek pasta variant.
How to make minced beef bell delight?
As is often the case, preparation is half the job. And in this instance, it's important to take your time for finely chopping the vegetables. Since we'll be incorporating them into the minced beef mixture, they should be cut quite finely. This will make our stuffed bell peppers even more flavorful.
Chopping the Vegetables and Mozzarella
Before we begin finely chopping the vegetables, let's prepare the mixing bowl for the minced beef. After cutting the vegetables into small pieces, we can transfer them directly to this bowl.
We start with the garlic. Peel the garlic cloves, then halve them and cut them into small pieces.
Next, we repeat this process for the onion. Remove the skin, halve the onion, and then cut it into small pieces. First, slice the onion halves horizontally, then vertically. Finally, you can finely chop them widthwise.
Now it's time for the red chili pepper. Remove the stem and halve it lengthwise. Use a small knife to remove the spicy seeds. Then, cut the halves lengthwise a few more times. Finally, finely chop them.
Let's move on to the mushrooms. Halve them and then slice them lengthwise. Cut small mushroom pieces widthwise.
Lastly, we have the bunch of parsley. Remove the leaves from the stems and finely chop them.
Finally, we are still left with the Mozzarella ball. Halve it and then cut both halves into small pieces. These will mix well with the minced beef during cooking.
Making the Minced Meat Mixture
We've already placed the vegetables and Mozzarella in the mixing bowl right after finely chopping them. Now it's time to add the remaining ingredients for the minced meat mixture. These include:
- Ground beef.
- Canned diced tomatoes: About 100 grams.
- Mustard.
- Oregano.
- Soy sauce.
- Salt and pepper to taste.
Stuffing and baking the green bell peppers
Before we start with the green peppers, let's preheat the oven to 220°C. By the time we finish stuffing the peppers, the oven will have reached the correct temperature. We also grease an oven dish with some oil. That's where we'll place our minced beef-filled green bell peppers shortly.
Now, it's finally time for the green bell peppers. We halve them lengthwise next to the stem. Then, we remove the inner parts along with the seeds.
Next, we fill the halved green bell peppers with the minced beef mixture. Press it down firmly and place the half peppers in the greased oven dish. Finally, we top the stuffed green peppers with some grated cheese.
Meanwhile, the oven should be preheated. The minced beef-filled green bell peppers can now bake in the oven for twenty minutes.
Baking the remaining minced beef mixture
Don't panic if you have leftover minced beef mixture after filling the green bell peppers. This is perfectly normal and desired. We'll cook this surplus together with the remaining diced tomatoes.
To do that, first heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large pan. Then add the remaining diced tomatoes. Once they start simmering, you can also add the remaining minced meat mixture.
Mix everything well and let it simmer over low heat.
Cooking the Orzo and adding to the minced beef mixture
While the minced beef is simmering in the pan, we bring enough water to a boil in a cooking pot. Once it's boiling, we add the Orzo to it.
The Orzo should typically cook for ten to twelve minutes. Afterwards, we drain the Orzo. Finally, we mix the Orzo into the simmering minced beef in the pan. Mix everything well.
Serving the minced beef bell delight
After twenty minutes, we take the stuffed green bell peppers out of the oven. They are now piping hot and should cool down for a moment.
Meanwhile, we scoop the minced beef-Orzo mixture into deep plates. On top of that, we place the flavorful minced beef bell delights. With that, it is time to serve the plates and perhaps open a bottle of Mediterranean red wine.
Bon appétit!
