It is a yearly habit in the beginning of every blogging year: looking back at the past year. And as every year we have a list with the most popular recipes of the last year. We have some evergreens, and some surprising newcomers. So stay tuned for that! We will explain everything in detail further down in the article. But first we will share the list with the most popular surprising.recipes in 2023.
Top 10 most popular surprising.recipes in 2023
The most popular surprising.recipes in 2023 explained
Gold, silver and bronze
Well, maybe the most surprising is that we have no changes in the top three. The same recipes that headed the list in 2022, continued to do so in 2023. Even in the same order.
Bananas stay on top. In the morning you may start with a banana omelette for breakfast. But don't throw away the peels. You can reuse them for your vegetarian lunch: banana peel curry. One ingredient, two meals. Maybe that is also the reason why they both stay on top of the list.
And we complete the top three with Fiskasúpa, the Icelandic fish soup. It brings good remembrances to me, and I love to see that other people also appreciate it.
Completing the top ten most popular surprising.recipes 2023
After the third place rankings start shifting. And we have three new recipes that made it to the list.
On four we continue with bananas and soup. The bananas are now plantains, and the soup is now from Cuba: Cuban green plantain soup. It makes it for the third time in a row into the top 10. After place 8 and 5, now moving one place up to four.
To complete the top five we have a complete newcomer: easy potato chorizo stew. Published in 2021 it is slowly but steadily building up visitors. And makes it now as a surprising newcomer into the top 10, without any special social promotion in 2023.
Spicy roasted pumpkin is one of the typical evergreens in the op 10 on surprising.recipes. For the second year in a row it lost however one position and is now figuring on number six.
Creamy pea mousse with mint is another newcomer in the list. It is meanwhile difficult to build up enough audience and reputation in the first year after publishing. But this year it made it easily among the 10 most popular recipes. Good chances that it will stay in the list for quite some while.
And I am happy with the next local specialities in the list
Gentse Waterzooi met kip - Ghent chicken casserole made it just into the top 10 in 2022. It is also a steady grower and now climbed further on to a number 8 position. As I have Belgian roots I am very proud that this typical Belgian dish makes it for the second year in a row amongst the 10 most popular surprising.recipes.
Käsespätzle - the German Mac&cheese could also confirm the performance of 2022, and lost only one position with regards to the prior year. Belgian roots, living in Germany. Happy that both of these culinary specialties made it again to the list.
And we close the list of the most popular surprising, recipes in 2023 with another newcomer. And it is indeed a special one that I like a lot. In 99% of the cases radishes are eaten raw. But you can also bake them. And their taste changes completely! Away bitterness, enter sweetness. You should really try this one: butter baked radishes!
Three recipes didn't make it to the list anymore
Of course, with meanwhile over 300 recipes, making it amongst the 10 most frequented recipes isn't that easy anymore. Staying there is a challenge every year. So here we have the unofficial rankings of the three recipes that lost ground:
- Paska - Slovak Easter breadPaska, Slovak Easter bread ended up on position 15.
- The mystery of the mini fried eggs made it to place 23.
- Mahonnaise, the origin of mayonnaise was on position 30 in 2023.
More about 2023
2023 was a very productive year with no less than 34 new recipes published on surprising.recipes. On top quite some older recipes have been reworked. Not bad, given the fact that it is only a spare time hobby, and that the same effort is made on the Dutch counterpart: gerechtenweb.
The main driver is that indeed we are aligning gerechtenweb and surprising.recipes slowly but steadily to having the same content, in two different languages. But gerechtenweb is much older, so many of the reworked recipes there appear as new on suprising.recipes.
Outlook for 2024
Slowly but steadily we are completing the setup of surprising.recipes. But there is still for some years work to do. So we will continue with both new recipes and updated older recipes to improve the portfolio. Figures show that this is appreciated.
Reaching the same level of productivity as in 2023 will however be a major challenge. Reason for that is a planned longer break of three months during the summer period. But with nine months left, there will still be a lot to enjoy on surprising.recipes.
If you speak Dutch, you can find the Dutch version of this recipe on gerechtenweb.blog.
