Is the basil growing so fast in your garden? These herb plants naturally thrive in sunny, warm and humid weather. And it's a shame to just let it go to waste. You can of course make pesto from it. But this green fresh basil oil is even simpler and tastier. And what could be better than dipping a nice piece of fresh baguette in this Italian herb sauce?

How to make green fresh basil oil?

This fresh basil oil is a cold preparation. Basically you just have to prepare the ingredients and then mix everything in the blender.

We initially unzip the leaves from the basil sprigs. We don't need the stems, and at the same time you can also select the less good leaves from them. Then wash in cold water to remove sand and insects. Then we have to pat them dry well in a towel or kitchen paper.

We only need to remove the outer skin from the garlic clove. Then we cut it into a few coarse pieces. The blender will then do the rest.

Then all ingredients go into the blender: the washed basil leaves, the garlic, the chili flakes (optional), the lemon juice, salt and of course the olive oil. Then mix everything until you have a smooth green sauce. Taste and check if you need or want extra seasoning.

Finally you can pour it into preserving jars or similar and store them in the fridge. You can also keep the basil oil in the freezer, just like ice cubes.

How to serve this basil oil?

As indicated at the beginning, this is delicious as a dipping sauce with a fresh piece of baguette. As a kind of aperitif before you start with the main meal.

Another option is to mix this basil oil into your pasta just like pesto. Delicious and simple, pasta with basil oil and some grated Parmesan.

And how about that other Italian classic? A Caprese with Mozzarella, tomatoes and then finished with this delicious fresh basil oil. Unbeatable!

Finally, this is also the ideal seasoning to mix with a salad as a dressing.
