As every year, we start the new year with an overview of the previous year. During 2019 a lot has changed and been innovated on surprising.recipes. We switched to a new layout with the Receptar theme for example. I like it a lot, as it puts the picture in the center, not unimportant when it comes to food. the eye is also eating with us. I also try to keep the posts very focussed on the recipe, because that is what it is all about after all.
In addition I started using the recipe cards of WPRM recipe maker from Bootstrapped ventures. This is by the way a Belgian software provider, which is of course a bonus.
A third innovation, actually more an experiment, is the activation of Adshares, a blockchain driven advertising platform. For my job I keep an eye on a lot of technical innovations. The best way to gain some experience and understanding for blockchain is applying it on myself. Financially it is not a big hit (yet), but as explained before that was not the primary goal. the adoption is primarily in the crypto and blockchain world, so there are few specific advertising campaigns for foodblogs (although I saw a few fellow foodblogs). For interested advertisers, understand this as your chance to gain cheap visibility. If interested, you can always contact me 😉
But enough delivered, you are here to see recipes! So here are the top 10 2019 on surprising.recipes.
1 Pangasius fillet in tomato saffron sauce

Pangasius fillet in tomato saffron sauce is one of the few recipes of 2018 that also made it into the list of 2019. It kept performing very well all over the year and after the second place the year before it could claim the top position in 2019.
2. Mascarpone pancakes with red fruit compote

These delicious pancakes with red fruit compote are creamy and fluffy, with a sweet and sour topping of red berries. A delicious breakfast for a Sunday. They received a lot of attention and were appreciated a lot!

3. Fresh fig carpaccio

This fresh fig carpaccio was my summer-autumn starter I published in September. But you can use it for many other festivities, we had it also in our Christmas menu.

4. Crispy crunchy cubed potatoes

If you are tired of the classic fries or croquettes as a side dish for your festive dinner, you may try these crispy crunchy cubed potatoes. Easy and delicious!

5. Chicken chowmein

I like to travel in Asia, and I like to eat Asian food. So I am very happy that this Nepali chicken chowmein was appreciated so much and made it easily in the top 10 2019.

6. Mini fried eggs

How to make three mini fried eggs out of one normal chicken egg? This question activated a lot of people to find out on surprising.recipes.

7. Healthy breakfast cake

Normally I am not so much into breakfast. So I am quite surprised but also very happy that two of my breakfast recipes made it into the top 10 2019. I made this one for colleagues in the office, and they liked it a lot also 🙂

8. Sweet&sour Chinese fried chicken

I published this sweet&sour Chinese fried chicken only by the end of October. So I am quite surprised that it still could make it into the top 10 2019. But it is easy and very tasty, such recipes always get a lot of attention. It is also the second Asian dish in this list 🙂

9. Biscoff pear pie

I classify this Biscoff pear pie as a typical Belgian dish. The two main ingredients are typically for Belgium. The famous Lotus Biscoff cookies are made in Belgium and pears are a typical Belgian fruit produce. I am very happy to see it in this list, and hope it comes back in the next years!

10. Fiskasúpa - Icelandic fish soup

After one recipe from 2018 and eight recipes from 2019, we have one from back in 2017 to close the top 10 of surprising.recipes. This Fiskasúpa - Icelandic fish soup is my favorite and keeps to get a lot of interest.
